City of TampereThe City of Tampere, as a municipal organisation, is owned by the city-region and is responsible for infrastructure as well as for producing conditions conducive to the movement of inhabitants of the municipality. Tampere's City of Tampere was founded with the purpose of developing solutions for transport communications and electronic services for rural roads with the aim of generating better, more environmentally friendly and safer transport. In Tampere, there are already many different types of traffic and information services, more and more of which are becoming real-time and personalised.
In the development of intelligent transport systems recent investment has been seen in public transport solutions, as well as in up-to-date traffic data collection, processing and in the exploitation of resources. Such public transport solutions create preconditions for the attractiveness, competitiveness of public transport and for growth in its use in comparison to other means of transport.
In Tampere the existing telematics systems are e.g. the public transport real-time management system (PARAS) which provides real-time parking information for the heart of the city centre, as well as a harbour information system.
The western ring was completed at the end of 2008, carried out by updating the route-guidance system. The system optimizes the road and street network use, increases safety and can minimize the inconvenience to traffic.
Other future telematic projects include e.g. a new public transport using a real-time management system, a light transport journey planner, as well as the implementation of Tampere city centre's public transport information system. In addition, the forecasting of transport travel time and the general use of the forecasts will be considered.
Tampere City plans to invest, develop and promote telematic solutions and services and plans to adopt new systems for the entire transport system and for all modes of transport in the region.
