Tampere region ITS network, TRITS
TRITS (Tampere Region Intelligent transportation system) network was established in spring 2007 to work as an open and consensual local forum for the regions’ stakeholders, allowing them to discuss about the ITS needs and progress. TRITS is an open network for the regions private and public sector’s ITS actors, aiming at researching and developing ITS solutions, commercial products and services together. Special areas of interest are, for example, traffic management, public transportation and traffic safety.
TRITS-network works in an active co-operation with ITS Finland as the regional co-operations catalyst and making field trips. One of the major goals is to make Tampere region nationally and internationally significant ITS test-area, offering proper size traffic surroundings and potential partners to develop new ITS products and services.
Background
Tampere Region has been known for its several advanced solutions for Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) since early 1990’s, and the region also has a wide range of education and know-how related to ITS. In addition to existing applications, the region also requires new solutions to deal with increasing traffic, to which the local ITS stakeholders have a lot to offer.
